For the first time in the Georgia Debate Union's history, two teams representing UGA received first-round at-large bids to the National Debate Tournament. The Georgia Debate Union has started off 2018 with a bang, finishing in the top 10 of every tournament we've attended since the start of the New Year! The team of Advait Ramanan and Swapnil Agrawal recently received an invitation to the prestigious Dartmouth Round Robin, which is held every January in Hanover, New Hampshire. They are one of 7 teams invited, competing against teams from Harvard, Northwestern, Emory, Kansas, Kentucky, and UNLV. Teams from the Georgia Debate Union have started the 2017-18 season on a very strong note, with teams earning top 10 finishes at each of the first three tournaments, including a victory at the Vanderbilt tournament. The Georgia Debate Union earned first and third place at the Samford University debate tournament, which was held in Birmingham, Alabama October 14-16. Junior Katie Marshall, a Calhoun High School alumna, and first-year Genevieve Hackman, a Milton High School alumna, finished in first place with multiple victories over Emory University, the University of Florida, and Georgia State University. The University of Georgia was recently ranked as the 18th best public university in the US News and World Report's most recent rankings.  That was a 3 spot jump from the prior year.   This news comes on the heels of UGA's recent top rankings in Kiplinger's and Forbes.
