Graduate Student Research Grant Program, 2024-25 The purpose of this initiative is to facilitate graduate student research projects. These may be thesis/dissertation related or additional projects. The student must be first author on any completed projects (the funds are not to support faculty-centered projects). The funds may not be used for conference travel. The application must provide evidence that the graduate student has also submitted applications for funding from outside sources, including, for example, the Graduate School Research awards or the Willson Center research awards. The student’s advisor will be the responsible budgeting party (due to UGA’s bureaucratic system) and will be responsible for overseeing the project to on-time completion. MA students in their second year and PhD students in their third or later year may apply. Students may receive funding more than once, but will have lower priority than new applications after their first award. Budgeted Funds -- $5,000 Deadlines: November 7 (up to $2500 available) February 1 (up to $2500 available) Awards expected to be between $500 and $1200 Individual spending deadline – requested June 1, 2025. If funds are not spent before the end of the fiscal year, they can no longer be guaranteed. All funds must be spent before the first research grant due date of the new academic year (typically October 1). Proposals should be no more than 2 pages and should include a detailed budget a timeline a description of the project copies of applications for other funding (graduate school, Willson Center, or other) (not included in 2-page limit) endorsement and signed statement of advisor assumption of financial responsibility (not included in 2-page limit) Award decisions will be made by the members of the Graduate Admissions Committee, except where an advisee of a committee member is applying for a grant. In such cases, the Graduate Coordinator will appoint a replacement from the same area. Students should submit a report on the project completion by June 15, 2025.
