Richard B Russell Advocacy Scholarships Friends and admirers of Senator Richard B. Russell in Georgia established the Richard B. Russell Foundation, Inc., a non-profit corporation, to preserve his records and support activities that exemplify his ideals. Activities supported by the Foundation at UGA include: The Russell Library, The Russell Chair in American History, The Russell Leadership Program, The Russell Teaching Awards, and the Russell Symposium. Senator Robert Byrd chronicled Senator Russell's service to the state and country in a February 1988 speech on the Senate floor [see Richard Russel Biography]. His papers are housed at UGA (additional information). The Georgia Debate Union annually awards $2,500 scholarships to successful Georgia high school debaters. Each year, four active members of the UGA debate team are awarded Richard Russell Scholarships. Each year, the application deadline is: March 15th. Debate Alumni Scholarship Program The Brent Clark Scholarship Fund This scholarship provides funding to undergraduate debaters. Mr. Clark debated at the University of Georgia in the 1980s and went on to a successful professional career in business. Currently, Mr. Clark and his family live in Texas. Students interested in support from the Clark Scholarship should contact John Stupek at john.stupek25@uga.edu. Augustus B. Turnbull Memorial Scholarship This scholarship provides scholarship to undergraduate debaters. Dr. Turnbull debated at the University of Georgia and went on to a successful professional career. He served as the Provost at the Florida State University and the FSU conference center is named in his honor.
