The Georgia Debate Union has started off 2018 with a bang, finishing in the top 10 of every tournament we've attended since the start of the New Year! Juniors Advait Ramanan, Swapnil Agrawal, Nathan Rice, and Johnnie Stupek tied for first-place and won the Hurricane Debates at the University of Miami for the 2nd straight year. The team of Advait Ramanan and Swapnil Agrawal recently received an invitation to the prestigious Dartmouth Round Robin, which is held every January in Hanover, New Hampshire. They are one of 7 teams invited, competing against teams from Harvard, Northwestern, Emory, Kansas, Kentucky, and UNLV. The Georgia Debate Union has partnered with the Digital Debate Camp to expand access and opportunities for high school debaters within and beyond the state of Georgia.  It services high school policy, public forum, and Lincoln-Douglas debate formats.   The Digital Debate Camp, created by Georgia Debate Union assistant coach and PhD Candidate in Communication Studies Steven Murray, is an online debate camp aimed at lowering entry…
The Georgia Debate Union just concluded its 2016-17 season and it can be considered a huge success. In the end of the year rankings, the Georgia Debate Union finished ranked 3rd, 7th, and 8th amongst the college policy debate organization rankings.   UGA placed third in the American Debate Association varsity rankings, 7th in the National Debate Tournament varsity rankings, and 8th in the Cross Examination Debate Association rankings.…
The Georgia Debate Union earned first and third place at the Samford University debate tournament, which was held in Birmingham, Alabama October 14-16. Junior Katie Marshall, a Calhoun High School alumna, and first-year Genevieve Hackman, a Milton High School alumna, finished in first place with multiple victories over Emory University, the University of Florida, and Georgia State University. The University of Georgia was recently ranked as the 18th best public university in the US News and World Report's most recent rankings.  That was a 3 spot jump from the prior year.   This news comes on the heels of UGA's recent top rankings in Kiplinger's and Forbes. The Georgia Debate Union was recently covered in UGA's school newspaper, the Red and Black.   2015-16 was a very successful year for Georgia Debate and it's nice to see the great coverage and PR!
