Image: We are saddened to learn that Dr. Dwight Freshley, the first Head of the Department of Communication Studies at UGA, passed away on June 3. Dwight was our longest-serving Department Head. He did a tremendous job getting the Department started and helping it to grow as a source of care and excellence. Throughout his time at UGA he was a positive and supportive presence. Even after retirement, he would often show up to say “hi!” with a tennis ball in his hands. We here note our gratitude for having benefited from Dr. Freshley’s kindness, good spirits, insight, and hard work. Without Dwight, the Department would surely not have had the same incredible positive growth and development.
