The Communication Studies Department is honored to announce that Elle Johnson, a PhD candidate in our Interpersonal and Health Communication program, has been chosen to participate in the SEC Emerging Scholars Career Prep Workshop. The SEC established this program to aid in preparing future faculty members to work within the Southeastern Conference. UGA has chosen 10 top scholars to participate in this Emerging Scholars workshop, with selection criteria noting that students must be interested in seeking a career in higher education, have demonstrated exceptional research and/or teaching skill, and be near completion of their doctoral dissertation. The SEC Emerging Scholars Program's purpose is to ensure that our communities reflect a multitude of experiences and viewpoints and that students are exposed to a variety of perspectives so they can become engaged, global citizens. Scholars who participate in the career preparation workshop will be expected to attend the entire multi-day event, complete several pre-workshop assignments and to visit with representatives from all 14 SEC universities on a range of topics, including the hiring process. Elle is an impressive scholar, and we are proud to have her representing our department and the entire University of Georgia at the SEC workshop.
